Thought i would share what we get up to down here in New Zealand
How to turbo charge your home made Smokehouse Bradley Style
Grabbed a pile of non treated ply and got building, added a V8 series of Bradley Smoke adaptors and this is what evolved over a few days
(http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww37/Gamfsh/SmokeHouse.jpg)
Added a Bradley stainless steel rack system that could smoke more fish in one hit that you could ever imagine, also deigned so you can take out the racks and hang your fish
(http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww37/Gamfsh/DSC03861.jpg)
Designed a drip tray system so this smokehouse will stay perfectly clean, just wash the tray and empty the bucket
(http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww37/Gamfsh/DSC03863.jpg)
Added a vent to the top that is fully adjustable
(http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww37/Gamfsh/DSC03867.jpg)
Then decided to add a commercial heating element so this puppy will cook anything and made it fully controllable (Black Heating Bar) from 40C to 85C
(http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww37/Gamfsh/DSC03863.jpg)
Now for the ultimate test 20 minutes later
(http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww37/Gamfsh/DSC03871.jpg)
Yep it works a treat :)
2 weeks later
OK the plan was set, Damo kindly threw all the kahwai from his fishing comp in the back of my truck, smoke this lot Gamefish!
Cured chilly bins of fish down last night using a sprinkling of Bradley Maple Cure and maple syrup and this morning load it up to the top
(http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww37/Gamfsh/DSC04444.jpg)
Checked it after a few hours and was surprised how much smoke it was producing!
"No fire Brigade here"
but opened the door and good lord now that holds the smoke and coming along nicely
(http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww37/Gamfsh/DSC04448.jpg)
Thought yep the plan is coming together
unit was sitting at about 55C consistently all day while i was working
4pm came round time for the final check
(http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww37/Gamfsh/DSC04450.jpg)
OMG perfection, not bad for a first effort
(http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww37/Gamfsh/DSC04451.jpg)
I can finally say from having an idea and turning it into reality i am pretty happy right now
So there you have it, good old kiwi ingenuity Bradley style!
VERY IMPRESSIVE!!
Do all the stainless steel rack holders and drip tray lift out for cleaning? Is it easy to keep clean?
And three smoke generators.... wow! :o
Hi Manxman i designed the racks using the Bradley Extra Stainless Racks so i could take them out to clean easily
after smoking this lot of fish the unit stayed perfectly clean with the drip tray i designed
I thought 3 generators was a good idea as this makes the perfect smoker and if i don't want a lot of smoke i can just turn them on and off to please :)
I agree with Manxman; very impressive.
If it was a Ferrari it would be a V12. Very nice.
OMG
I want one. Very very nice. Man is my wife going to be mad :D if i built one i would have to live in it too :D ;D
Great job
nepas
Holy cow. That looks fantastic!!! Job most impressively done. Congratulations and don't be shy about posting more pictures. I've got my drool buckets out.
Tom
Wow, very impressive
Impressive indeed!
Next you will be building a rack holder so that you can pressure wash your racks outdoors. That is what I would be thinking of so that there is as little work as possible. ;D
Wowsers!
That smoker rocks!
I wonder how many pork butts you can get in there....
im green with envy... i need one of them
WOW!!! Let's all head for New Zealand. Really impressive work.
KyNola
Now thats a SMOKER
Now that Bad Boy TRUMP's any of the homebuilt smokers I have seen for awhile. I want one as well!!!
Now that is a smoker, wow....You could cook for a huge group at one time in that.
Hey guys, just dawned on me. Wait until the Iceman gets a load of this!! He is definitely going to be impressed with 3 smoke generators fired up.
I am amazed at the ingenuity of some of the folks on here. Wish I could say the same for me.
KyNola
Well, I have to say that this is very impressive! Sadly, I was going to take photos of my home built smoker and post them this weekend if my racks arrive in time...but after seeing this...well, I feel like ACDC just opened up my concert for my local home town band.... :( Maybe I will wait until the crowd stops applauding before I post mine. hahaha....this is a joke...a very impressive setup you have and something to be very proud of. CONGRATS!!
Definite smoker envy here.
Man i keep looking at this and looking at my wife and i get I DONT THINK SO
You have us all beat by a long shot. Very nice smokehouse.

nepas - You could always tell her you plan on going into business selling freshly smoked goodies to order. I could never get away with that (since SWMBO knows I'm far too lazy to start a business) but you might be able to (and you could write off the cost of construction and supplies until the business "folded" and you had to convert the new rig to strictly personal use).
The wife just pops into my office at the wrong times. She took one look at that masterpiece and said "So now you just have to build that? I suppose Nepa has one as well?" I used my better judgement and told her I had no use for a smoker like that. That is one heck of a supercharged smoker!

Hi Nepas, there was some logic to building this beast, In New Zealand people are so traditional about Big Fire Smoke Houses
So i got to thinking and wanted to design something that was easy to clean and simple to operate, the idea behind 3 generators is if i needed alot of smoke i had it at my fingertips, otherwise i would only use 2
Stay tuned as i have a few friends at present hunting so i am planning to smoke a few beasts so i will post up the results, by then i would have installed an electronic timer :)

Holy cow, you should have said "HANG A COW". I think you could smoke a side of beef in there. My next smoke in that mansion would be a whole hog. ;D

Very nice set up. That one is going to give you years of fun. Great pictures and thanks for the post.
Awesome, just Awesome, can't say anymore, words just fail me
JFG
Now that's one heck of a smoker. I love the smell of smoking fish brings back alot of memories. Great job!
I have seen this monster in the flesh and I can tell you it really is a masterpiece, well thought out and works a treat. Now to get a marlin to fill the thing up
Wow that is a cadillac of smokers! I wish my wife would consent to letting me have on!
wow very impressive indeed. This is not the Cadillac of all smokers but rather the hummer or the mother of all smokers. Great work and you should be proud. I don't suppose you would be willing to share the plans

Showed this to my friend and this is his response:
"It looks like it is in his back yard..... friend has the same one in his back yard but his wife was mad at him for using it. It turned out it was his Mother-in-Law house (she was inside when he did his first smoke)" ;D

Might have to try that ::)
Guys just an update, summers here down here, warm water is arriving and those elusive Marlin are about to show, then this puppy will really be put through it's paces ;)
Hey what kind of temp can you get from this. As a kid, dad built a 3'x3'x12' plywood smoker for doing salmon. It was smoked with a hot plate and frying pan so it got pretty hot inside as to hot smoke the fish. Is yours mainly for cold smoke or will the element you put in it get some good temps inside it.
Hi Quarlow, the heating element i have made controllable so i can get a true cold smoke or heat up to 150C (300F) so it makes it a great cooking tool if needed :)
Wow that's some good temp for a shack that size. Cool
What is the heating element you put in this beatiful beast of a smoker?!

Huntnfreak, it is actually a radiant heater as used in restaurants outdoors to keep people warm while seated
not sure if there are 110 volt as we are 230 volt here, but here is the web link and you could always ask

Thanks for the info. I don't think I'm to the point of needing that big of a smoker, but I'm guessing it's like a garage. Always build it bigger because sooner or later you will fill it up!!
