Alright, looks like it going to be a good one.
Looks to me like Coco is guarding that chicken! ;D

With a canine ferocity unmatched in our time!
Ok, Bradley wide open 5 hickory bisquetttes, and one JD bisquettes. Rotate the chicken at one hour and add the corn in aluminum boats with salt, pepper, onions, and butter.

It was GOOD!
Thanks

Dam, Bjt. that chicken looks awesome. Nice color. :P
The best thing is you can pee off the deck and no one can see 8) I love living on a dead end road off of a dirt road in swamp east Missouri...
John
Chicken and corn look great Bigjohn! I sure wish I could pee off my back deck!!
After thirty I rotated the corn...
John
That looks great John, only thing missing is your controls. ;D ;D
By the way I changed you to a 4" touch screen yesterday because the 3" was out of stock. You should have it Monday, thermocouple cassette soon after. The wrong cable will show up but don't worry I have the right one for you in my truck.
Me, I'm doing 5.5 lbs of jerky tomorrow (3lbs of Nepas Teriyaki, 2.5 lbs of my own recipe) then as soon as that is done three full racks of baby backs will be going in and if there is enough room in the smoker a full tray of bacon wrapped stuffed penos. Yeah Sunday should be a good day. Only bad thing is I will be completely out of bisquettes tomorrow night, going to have to order some more.

Looks good.
Let me know how your corn turned out. Generally I leave the inner leaves of the husk on, because any exposed kernels tend to dry out. I would like to know if boating them that why will still protect the kernels that are exposed.

The corn turned out fantastic. I rotated the corn in the boat after 30 minutes and kept it on the top rack. The corn was in for 1 hr at 225.

Hey Scott,
I can't wait to get the PLC and touch screen so I can build my automagic smoker control unit.
I'm planning on doing some nepas jerky today...

Are you into custom PID work??
You might say so, I design and build automation equipment. The PID component is a part of the Programmable Logic Controller that has two thermocouple inputs as well as some other inputs and outputs. The Touch screen communicates to the PLC via a serial link. I will program the whole cycle into the PLC via the touch screen. This will do quite a bit more than a PID controller.

That's cool.. I do software development, but on PCs, 'nixen and the Big IBM Iron. I've done some WinCE embedded stuff, but only as a test port. Never anything at the PLC level.
I could have some fun with a remote serial interface to my Bradley..
You'll have to tell me more about it when you get it all up and cooking.
There is a software PLC called Classicladder (http://sourceforge.net/projects/classicladder/) that is free. I does run on Linux... Add a break out board to drive a relay from your parallel port and then you just need to figure out how to get the temperature reading back into the PC... I think there is some hobby guys that do that for reading air temperature or things like that... I'm familiar with Classicladder as it is also included in with the Enhanced Machine Control software known as EMC2 (http://www.linuxcnc.org/). I've been with that project for a few years mainly as a document writer because programmers make terrible documentation. I use EMC2 to control a CNC Plasma (http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f163/johnplctech/Plasma%20Cutter/H2OTable.jpg) table that I designed and built. It can control up to a 9 axis machine robot or whatever.
I'll start a new thread detailing the controls.

Amen, bro! I hate writing doc...
Looking forward to the project details. That blends 2 of my favorite pastimes, custom software and outdoor cooking.
