Title: 17 Pound Turkey?
Post by: Eman on November 23, 2009, 06:38:35 PM
So, I did a 12 pound turkey in a Bradley's original on Canadian Thanksgiving, and it was awesome.  It took 7 hours at around 225.  I want to do another this week, but the smallest bird I could find was 17 pounds.  Anyone done one this big?  Can I just increase the time to around 10 hours (or so), or do I need to finish it in the oven.  No Big Easy on hand.....

There is nothing wrong with starting it in the smoker and finishing in the oven. I've seen some posts where members have smoked up to an 18 pound bird, from start to finish in the Bradley. They smoked/cooked it vertically to get it to fit. If you don't have a vertical turkey holder, you can use a tallboy size beer can and use two racks nested together for greater support.
