Title: 150 is the highest
Post by: TXClint on April 26, 2010, 08:27:47 PM
Hey everyone, I am new to smoking and had a question about the temp.  As we speak I am smoking4 large bone in chicken breasts with mesquite.  The weather is good right now, I smoked a pre-cooked/cured ham and it is great.  One thing I did notice.  The box is set to 210, but the time never got any higher than 150, according to the digital display. I only opened the door a few times.  Just to get an idea, I did stick a meat thermometer in the top vent and it was within 5 degrees of the display, Whats the trick to getting the temp. higher?....  Setting the oven temp higher???

Thanks for the help!!

Clint ;D

Look inside your Bradley and see if your element is glowing reddish.

If not, reconnect your back wires several times to get a good connection.

If you can't get it higher soon, get them chickens in the oven before something bad happens.

Glad it was that simple. Tell your Wife ... Great Job! ;D

Also try to smoke/cook your chicken a little hotter, like 240 to 250.

Welcome Clint. Just remember to keep that vent open. 1/4 to 1/2 most of the time and wide open for poultry. And we won't tell anyone that your wife had to get your smoker going for you, it's just between you and me. Right boys and girls!
