Title: Hello from Calgary
Post by: wilsondg on September 18, 2010, 09:33:48 AM
Hi,

I just bought the OBS smoker with dual probe Auber PID temperature controller.  This year has been very wet, cool and since I don't really have a place in my garage to set up the smoker, I built myself a smoker stand to protect from the wind and rain.  There is a bathroom fan in the roof that extracts the smoke when I have all four sides enclosed with plexi-glass in case it rains. Just thought I would say Hi, and share a few pictures!!

Great idea! Is it top heavy?

Welcome to the forum and wow, that is one nice set up. wood shingles and all. Love the Calgary area area by the way. Was up at Banf for a couple of conventions a long time ago and absolutely loved it up there. Loved the exchange rate back in those days as well. The Canadians would kid and say buying things up there with US dollars was like it was free. That's all changed now. Anyway, welcome and be sure to post some results pictures.

Yes it is a bit top heavy, so that is why I had welded some rings on the bottom so that I could attach the bottom frame to the deck floor with cable, and also I attached the sides to the deck railing with cable.
This was one of those project that just kept growing, originally I just planned to build a table to put it on, then I thought it would be nice for a windbreak for the windy days, so I went taller and put on plexiglass, then I thought it would be nice to protect from rain, so then on when the roof  :D  Knowing how it turned out now, I might have done something on the base to make it wider so it wouldn't be so top heavy, but actually the way I have it anchored, it works well.
