Title: pucks not advancing!!!!!
Post by: smokin420 on December 05, 2010, 11:16:20 AM
I have the DBS and the puck advancer is not working properly. There is not code coming up(E1),it is making the clicking noise when i push the WOOD> button but does not move the advancer.I have pulled it appart 2 times and cleaned everyting very well and the advancer is not sticking or gummed up. It will advance 6 times in a row, then not work the next time or two. I was wondering if anyone has had the same problems??

check all of the  connections and be sure there ll are clean, tight and  making  good connections. sometimes  when the generator  is opened  a connection or two comes apart

It sounds as if you have a stripped gear in the motor, or the arm is being blocked by some obstacle and can not rotate.

Here are instructions on how to open and clean the generator. The photos show a OBS generator, but it is essentially the same for how to open and reassemble. When you reassemble make sure the wires will not obstruct the path of the arm.

How to clean the generator. (http://www.susanminor.org/forums/showthread.php?488-Answers-To-Bradley-Smoker-FAQ-s&p=987#post987)

I've had a similar issue on the digital smoker that turned out to be the logic board (the white box).  If it's the same problem you can catch it with a lot of patience and careful listening - you have to be there when it happens.  When the puck advance starts you will hear the microswitch click as the arm that drives the pusher comes off the switch.  In a normal cycle you will hear that same switch click a second time several seconds later (maybe 10 ?) as the arm returns to the switch, which causes the cycle to end.  In the errant cycles that came and went on my DBS you would get the first click then a second click about one-second later rather than the normal~ 10 seconds.  What was happening was the cycle would start, the arm would come off the switch (first click), then within one second would reverse and come back, hit the switch (second click) and kill the cycle.  A manual feed seemed to correct the problem for a few more pucks, then it would return again.  If that's your problem, call Bradley in the morning.

Recently I found a separate blocking problem that only surfaced with Bubba pucks - there is an edge of the metal enclosure box that the pucks must cross moving from the inside rail to the exterior rail that ends to the burner -- those tow rails are distinct.  Over time the rails drooped just enough relative to the rectangular opening that the Bubba pucks would catch the opening and jam the cycle with an E code.  A Dremel tool fixed that one.
