Title: Meat Grinder Help
Post by: gmwoodturner on January 04, 2011, 06:12:50 PM
Time to buy a grinder, got every thing else but the grinder.I don,t know a whole lot about them but it sounds like bigger is better, is this true. No one seems to sell a decent grinder in my area ( about a two hour drive east of Toronto, Ontario) so I have only seen them on the internet. I will be using it for personal use , but we do like sausage and salami. I think I have narrowed it down to a 1hp LEM or the Cabela's 1hp. These are the only two that I have been able to find any info on in the $500.00 CAD price range.   Not sure if I need this much HP so please chime in with all your comments or suggestions. Also does any one know if either Cabela's or BassPro shops have these on sale at better prices in the spring.
Thanks for all the Help

1 hp is a lot of grinder.    I don't know how much you plan to grind at a time but as I said, that's a lot of grinder.   I've got a 1/2 hp L.E.M. and it'll grind as fast as I can feed it.    It does a great job.

I have a 1/2 hp Northern Tool grinder.

Does it as fast as I can go.

I have a 3/4 hp grinder that I have never used.

I have a .2HP Gander Mountain grinder that CRG so kindly gave me.  I ground 10 lbs of shoulder for sausage in no time.
