Title: Let me see if I have this straight.
Post by: Roget on May 19, 2011, 01:45:15 PM
To use the Auber 2 probe PID on my DBS,
I need to turn the SG oven on, but not set any time or temp.
I need to operate the SG smoker exactly as I always have. (sans the PID)
If I use the probe 2, but only set end of cycle for time, will I get a readout of the current IT?
Is routing the probes through the door as I now do the preferred method for the PID probes?

Thanks for your help.

Roget,

I am new here as well, but let me see if I can help.  I have a 4 rack DBS and a two probe Aubrins PID.
You plug the Bradley Smoke Generator into a power outlet. If you would like, you can plug the the thermometer jumper from the SG to the box so it will display a box temp on the Smoke Generator (always good to have a temp readings from multiple locations in the box).  Don't use the power jumper from the smoke generator to the main box.  Instead, plug the PID into the main box and into a separate power outlet.  I hung both probes from the PID down through the vent in the top instead of going in through the door.  The PID will control the box temp, and the Bradley smoke generator will control the wood puck delivery and smoke generator heater element.

You can program the PID to either control temp by time or internal temp of the meat.  Either way, I believe the two display's on the PID are going to reflect the temp of the smoke box probe and the meat probe.  If you are controlling temp by time, I think there is a button you can push to toggle the display and show you the amount of time remaining.

I have really enjoyed this set up, especially after I added the additional 500 watt element.  It holds temp solid as a rock.  I cooked a couple butts last week (18 pounds total) and temperature variances were only a couple degrees.  I program the PID to maintain a cabinet temp of 190*F until the butts internal temp hit 155* F, then I had the box temp go to 220*F until the internal temp hit 192*  then shut off.  Smoke applied for the first 9 hours (through the night) then I had the generator shut off.  Entire cook lasted around 18 hours through the night and into a cool windy day.   Hope this helps.
