Title: First Yard Bird in the SRG W/PICS
Post by: mikecorn.1 on August 21, 2011, 04:09:27 PM
Finally got to break in the SRG. Went for the yardbird.  ;D

Pulled out a Webber brand Mesquite rub and butter.  Put it all underneath the sking and on the outside. Also injected it with the same stuff.

The bird in in the SRG

I tried the smoker out at the same time but more smoke was coming out of the side than was actually staying in. Even though i got a good seal on the smoker box now. Not impressed with this feature.

After 35 min covered on High heat

After that, I covered the bird with heavy duty foil to keep it from browning anymore or burning the skin. Worked for me. It stayed crispy and cooked at the same time.

Protection for the ole ET73. Didnt use it till after the first 35 minutes covered. Then I monitored it till 165'

Over all a succesfull first attemp, I did use the foil to cheat a lil but it is my first time and I need more practice.  ;D
Hope ya'll enjoy the pics.

Mike that all looks really good! Nice job!

Mike, for the smoke, you might go back and look at the mod's that Tommy/TMB did for his SRG.

Ain't nothing wrong with that Mike.

When you look at the mods that SouthernSmokes posted

look at the Tommy ring. That raises the basket more into

the hot zone.
