Title: ICB X Ingredient Thread
Post by: Tenpoint5 on February 15, 2013, 06:49:32 PM
I have been informed that it is time for another Iron Chef  Bradley. Some of the new folks have heard about them or may have read about some of the past ICB. If your new and are wondering what this is all about you can follow this link. http://forum.bradleysmoker.com/index.php?topic=17985.0  These are usually a lot of fun and this is the time that we get to pick on each other and talk a little smack. It is all done in fun and as long as we keep it that way it will still be fun. Join in, Have fun. Think outside the box and get as wild and exotic with your meals as you wish. Here is how we start an ICB.

Basic Iron Chef rules:

Be creative on your recipes.

It can be as simple as a new ABT or a recipe that would take a snooty waiter in a fancy-schmancy restaurant 10 minutes to describe.

At least 80% of the cook time must be done in the Bradley Smoker, grill or other outdoor cooking method. Up to 20% of the cook time can be done on the stove, oven.

Use any spices or pre-made BBQ sauces, or other goodies as you wish.

The recipe is not limited to just the 3 main ingredients. Your pantry is open and anything is fair game to be used in your recipe. As long as the meat and two other ingredients are in one dish. IE...one bite gets all three ingredients.

It can be breakfast, brunch, lunch, or supper, or midnight snack.

The turn in thread will be opened on the 2nd of March and closed during the day on March 5th. The voting will be March 6th through March 8th.

ARE YOU READY FOR THE INGREDIENTS???

The Ingredients are:

Country Style Ribs
Portabello Mushroom
English Muffin/Bagel

What's an Iron Chef?

Iron Chef Bradley:

The concept of the Iron Chef Bradley (ICB) on the Bradley Smoker Forum was was first posted by Tenpoint5, on April 14, 2009. The idea quickly caught on, he organized the first contest on April 18, 2009, and the first winner was announced on May 8, 2009.

From time to time this event and entry times will be posted on the Bradley Smoking Forum. To enter you must post your recipe with photos, therefore in order to participate you must be a member of the Bradley Smoker Forum. Voting will be done in the form of a poll, which will be posted at the end of the turn in date.

The competition rules require that at least 80% of the cook time must be done in the Bradley Smoker, grill or other outdoor cooking method.

What is the Iron Chef Bradley competition?

Here is what the Iron Chef Bradley is all about:

I will have a list of "secret ingredients." They consist of one meat and two "other" ingredients. My wife does a blind drawing of one meat and two mystery ingredients. I post said ingredients and those who participate have two weeks to come up with a dish. It must be primarily cooked outside on grills, smokers, car engines, etc.... There is usually a two week period for creativity and fitting in everyone's schedule. During this two week period, we will have a "smack talk" thread going. Once the two week period is over a thread opens up for entries and you have to post pics of the process and a final plated dish.

A poll will be created and we vote.

It's pretty fun and some of the dishes are incredible!! It's just a way to get the creative juices flowing and get out of a rut and maybe cook something you've never tried!

All 3 ingredients must be used in the one dish.

•Basic Iron Chef Bradley Rules:

1.Be creative on your recipes.

2.It can be as simple as a new ABT or a recipe that would take a snooty waiter in a fancy-schmancy restaurant 10 minutes to describe.

3.At least 80% of the cook time must be done in the Bradley Smoker, grill or other outdoor cooking method. Up to 20% of the cook time can be done on the stove, oven.

5.The recipe is not limited to just the 3 main ingredients. Your pantry is open and anything is fair game to be used in your recipe. As long as the meat and two other ingredients are in one dish. ie...one bite gets all three ingredients.

6.It can be breakfast, brunch, lunch, or supper, or midnight snack.

7.Voting will be done in the form of a poll. You will only have to pick your favorite and vote for that one.

Dates?

So when you say country style ribs I am under the impression they are ribs that are cut from the blade end of the loin close to the pork shoulder. They are meatier than other rib cuts. They contain no rib bones, but they instead contain parts of the shoulder blade (scapula).

Is this correct or can any ribs be used?

I was speaking of dates (the fruit) and wondering why they weren't included.  Or was it dates (the escorts) which I wouldn't be allowed to have anyway?

Look!  A squirrel!

As long as the package says country style ribs on it your good Don. Since some butcher use pork butts for country style ribs I am going to say if it is labeled as country style ribs that's what you can use. NO baby backs, spares or anything of that nature should be used. However the rules have never been that strictly enforced. It is all up to the forum members that do the voting and to what they deem is following the rules of the game!!

I had planned to enter, but forgot my Jelly Beans when I was at the grocery store Friday, and won't be back there until the 13th.  Also forgot the other allegedly required ingredients (which I might say, I was totally on board with, they just didn't speak up as I walked by).
