Without getting into a lot, due to my health I've had to retire. Because of it I will no longer be able to maintain the recipe site and a webmaster.
On the site there is a set up so you can download the whole site. Just make sure to following the directions. Make sure to install the program first before you download the recipes.
Or if enough of you want to maintain it then have Hab get with Trey and he can move the site from a deli server to a shared one.

Sorry to hear about the failing health Raye. I suspected things were not going too well since it is rare to hear from you anymore. I hope it improves as you get rid of the stress factors. I would have to say it would not be possible, without a tremendous amount of rewriting most of the information. The two forums codes are not 100% compatible, and there would be a lot of formatting that will be lost. Especially those write-ups with tables and bullets, and there are a lot of them.

Golden Section Labs only make a Windows version of GS Reader and GS Notes. Depending on what OS you are running, you may want to try a Mac program called CrossOver Mac Pro (http://www.macworld.com/article/1143037/crossover8.html).

RedJada, I looked at the compatibility chart for Crossover and they don't list Golden Reader in the apps that they support. I think your best bet is to purchase Parallels or VMware to run a virtual machine. I had been using VMware for years and switched to Parallels and love it. I hate to run Windows but some of the companies that I do work for their apps only run in Windows so I am forced to put up with the window environment.
Thanks Sailor, I will check that out too. Hate to loose all that info. I'm willing to help to keep the site going but haven't seen any mention of anyone else willing to do so. It will be sad if the site just fades away. There is a legacy there, Too much time and work just to let it go off into the cyber world.
I am willing to donate to a fund for the purpose of converting those files or transferring them to another server. It would be a shame to loose that collection.

Thanks also Raye. I would be willing to donate to this cause too. If someone picked it up we could do like a pledge drive say every February to raise the funds to pay for it. Kind of like PBS TV. I know Raye mention what it cost but it escapes me how much. I'm sure we could raise the funds and maybe we could even find some corporate donations also. So what do you all think? Is it feasible?

I think Habs would have all of the info needed on specs as he maintains the site now. I went to the vBulletin site https://www.vbulletin.com/ and noted that the software is $249.00. Then you have to get a domain name and pay a monthly fee for hosting. Domain names are around $10 and hosting can run $6.00 to $10 a month depending on what you need. vBulletin will only allow one license so whoever purchases the product controls the site. Habs said the the files are not compatible with the Bradley forum so I would think that most likely one would have to use the same platform that the site is now on which is vBulletin.
The way I see it is there are several options.
1. See if Olds will sell the site to someone else and have them maintain it. Not sure if the license is transferable. Then that person has control of the site and can at some point decide to shut it down.
2. Purchase a new license and have someone maintain it. Who ever does this can decide to shut it down at any time and it is back to square one again. What type of legal liability is involved for copying a site that is going to be shut down? I don't know!
3. See if another forum owner will host the recipe site and transfer the recipes to that site. Lot of work to transfer it if the files are not upload compatible. What legal liability is involved if the owner of the current site does not grant permission to use the existing files? That site can also be shut down.
4. If you want the information that is on the site do a download of them using Golden Rule reader and then you have them on your computer.
5. Do nothing and the site goes down and the information is gone except for those that downloaded the files.
Perhaps there are more options but I think that is about the size of it. There are many BBQ sites that have linked to the recipe site and I agree that losing it would be sad.
I thank Olds for hosting the site for all of these years and thank Habs for maintaining it. They both put a lot of work into the site. Hopefully a solution will be found and the information contained on the site will be around for many many years.
Are those numbers $$$ per month or year? Since Habs is already maintaining the site (and if he still wants to continue to do so) Couldn't Olds (if willing) just keep the license/site, Habs maintains it (maybe with help), and us here with other BBQ sites linked to it help pay for it? Just an idea.

I think the license fee is a 1 time fee. The domain name is around $10 per year. The hosting fees are monthly and are around $6 to 10 per month. You can buy a package deal with some providers and they give you a brake for a yearly hosting fee paid in advance.
For the question ....would Olds be willing to let us use the license and just pay for the monthly charge, only he can answer that. Perhaps those that know him could ask. Seems to me that Habs is the one that would need to be contacted to see if he would even be willing to take on the project. If he is not willing then what?
I believe Olds has been hosting it on his server and that is what is getting shut down so it would have to go to another server to be continued, that is if I understood correctly.

It is great to see so much support for the recipe site. Many agree there is just too much valuable information to be lost.
At this time I can say that everything is being looked into to save the site.
Well if all else fails I'm sure several people will save it and can share around. I plan on downloading when it gets updated again and already have a large amount printed out in my smoker book.

But could the recipes be converted to a PDF book format or Ebook format then as new recipes get added that file can be updated. No need to be compliant with any forum software it is just a file download at that point.
If Ebook then it can be sold on amazon and proceeds go to support this sites costs with (I would think) some percentage going back to the originator as a thanks you.
Just throwing out ideas...

A service provider that supports SMF is the best thing here then porting would be easy. Just a thought. Thanks Old & Hib for all the work they have done.
Hab told me about the topic going on here and had to come by and sound off. Raye and I have been friends for... God... forever. He and I have had some downs but a lot more ups. In the recent years, he has donated his time, money and efforts to everyone in order to provide a neutral place for recipes and what not. I am particularly grateful to how he and I have grown between the two of us.
With this said, I have been working on moving the site now for a while with the knowledge that it would not be continuing under Raye. New software has been in test and I have some kinks to work out, but I will let everyone know now that the site will continue. Hab has reached out to me on this because he did not know I was already working on it and I will be working with him and possibly others to continue offering what I call a gift to everyone here that Raye has been providing. More details will come on this.
I wish wellness for you, Raye. I wish happiness for you and that lovely wife of yours. I am sure I can say we all wish the best for you. Now, get busy and start beating whatever is ailing you!

Well, I'm not a old timer here by any means, and I'm a day late and a dollar short on this thread, but I wish to thank those responsible for the recipe site, and pledge my support to those willing to carry it on. As I am extremely ignorant when it comes to internet technology I'm afraid I have nothing more to offer by way of hosting suggestions, so I'm grateful, and hopeful to any who can carry it on. My first impression while reading this was, "Oh God, this is going to cost a whole forest in trees, cause I'm gonna print out all the recipes I think I will use"! I have very recently enjoyed home cured bacon, and pastrami that were prepared from recipes I took from it,and certainly will be using many more. So to borrow a phrase we've been using here in Seahawks country lately- I'm in!
I was thinking there may be another way of approaching this if it is agreeable to every one, There is a site called " Key Ingredient " where people can post there own recipes, mark them as friends, then add followers which is done through adding in e mail addresses. This way any one who wants to contribute they can link to who they want and have a way to find more recipes to there linking.
a basic membership is free, a prime account is $ 20.00 a year. plus there are apps for i pad and google. Also i think there is one for windows as well as logging onto it online

Coming from someone that uses there smartphone for all Internet purposes I really like that idea! Nothing wrong with the recipe site as is, but in app version would be nicer to read I am sure.

I have moved the site to my server and am in the process of testing. If all goes well, it will be back up by the end of the night. This, of course, is assuming that there are no issues.

Not working in Washington State.
The URL is the same. For those that were having trouble logging into the site after 6PM, please try again. Trey was making the final touches and was enabling the site for public access, so there may have been sporadic times the server was down.
If you still have problems accessing the site, please include the browser and OS version.
I've tested it with IE 11, and Firefox 24, and so far I haven't come across any issues.

This Windows message typically means that you need to log in as an administrator - essentially it means that elevated permissions are required to complete the task you are requesting.
I attempted to retrieve the DNS records for the site, and while the hosting services name servers can be resolved, the records cannot, resulting in address failure. Because this is not occurring for everyone, it is possible that the domain name has not been propagated to all worldwide name servers yet.
I got there the other day but not today. I suspect that Trey is working on it.

If you get an IP address other than 66.7.194.3, then your device is holding onto the old site address for some reason.

Just tried it. Mine didn't return any IP address. It just said something about not being able to find host susanminor.org. No joy from work yesterday, either. That one is connected to a totally different server and I tried it from a PC that I'd never used before.

For those having trouble, are you entering "susanminor.org" or "www.susanminor.org"? If you are not entering "www.", then give that a shot. There is nothing else I can suggest at this point beyond that. I have verified from an external verification source that the new site address is working.

I have tried everything recommended to no avail. I initially was able to reach the site but have not been able to yesterday and today.

It is a while since I have logged in to the forum but did so today and came across this thread. The spirit displayed in the messages is heart warming. I would also like to express my thanks to Raye for his work in hosting the recipe site in the past and wish him all the best in his retirement. I have used the recipe site many times, it is a wonderful resource and quite amazing that it is available freely to all so thanks to Trey also for continuing it. I noticed that an earlier post mentioned that the sender was a day late and a dollar short, well I guess I am about a week late but if there is a need for monetary support to keep the recipe site going then there should be no shortage of dollars.
The site links work for me by the way - just as if nothing has changed.

I then tried my wife's laptop and ipad, neither of which have ever been used to go to the old server and didn't have any success there either. I'm going to give it a couple of days to see if it's still propagating to the various name servers out there.

I have no idea what is causing the problem. I've been searching the internet and some suggest it can be the settings on your browser.
For Window users using IE you can try:
Tools>Internet Options>Connections>LAN Settings> (Make sure Proxy Server is unchecked) >OK>OK
Proxy is not checked. Day before yesterday I was able to access without a problem. Have not been able to since then. Absolutely nothing has changed on my system since that time on either computer. I am confident that something is not quite right on the other end.

I had the same experience. It was "announced" the new site was up, it worked fine for me and all of a sudden it wasn't. Don't think we could all be having the same problem on our end.

Same issue here in (NE Ohio). Worked at first now nothing. Firefox and Safari at home, IE at work. Get message "server not found" Cleared cache/cookies and what not.

Checked Proxy settings, were correct. When I moved my website to a new server it took a while for it to propagate to all the name servers, I am hoping that is what is going on here and that it will iron itself out in a few days.
Right now I'm very thankful that I managed to get my smoker fine tuned before the site vanished. It was an invaluable resource both in educating me about my smoker but also the great things you can do with a Bradley smoker. I hope it comes back soon so I can start working on some of the recipes.

I'm fairly confident that nothing is wrong on the user end of anyone - it is server side and related to domain name propagation. What we are experiencing is a classic symptom of partial propagation of the new location. From the IP address 66.7.194.3, it appears that the site is using shared hosting. Please note that all you need do in any url is substitute 66.7.194.3/~susanmin for www.susanminor.org and you'll arrive at the proper location. Keep in mind that not much on the page will work because the forum code automatically places the www.susanminor.org url into all links. Move your cursor into any link and you'll see what to change to get to where you want to be.

Neither can I in Ottawa Canada. I have a Macbook Air and it can't find the server on Safari or Firefox.

It's not your network. It won't connect whether I try it from my company's server at work or from home on my Charter network.

Any way you slice it, this is just plain unacceptable. I will contact the registrar to see if they can initiate some sort of DNS refresh.

Cyber Dude, just be patient. I'm sure it's being looked at daily. Just give it time for everything to take affect and balance out. There is a lot of info that has to be moved.

Thank you for your effort and diligence, I would bet it's as simple as a transposed number somewhere that is causing things not to propagate to the right name servers.
I didn't look yesterday, but I just came back from checking and it has become active for me.

Check the address for typing errors such as ww.example.com instead of www.example.com
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
I'm in Knoxville TN using Charter Cable.
