Title: Smoked peanuts in the shell
Post by: uplandpointer on January 17, 2015, 12:55:59 PM
Who else does this? I have tried a search with out any luck so hear goes.  I smoke Peanuts (salted) in the shell with out anything done to them. I do 12 lbs at a time by just putting them in the smoker on racks for about 3 hrs  with Cherry  and Hickory.    They turn out great and don't last long. Every one that tries them wants more.

Just looking for other ways of doing them (in the shell)

Please-- how does the salt reach the peanut is it's still in the shell?

Never done in shell peanuts but I like to do in shell pistachios. I give them a little lime and smoke for 2 hours with apple. I'll have to try your idea.

Does the smoke actually get past the shell and into the nut itself??
If not, what is the advantage of smoking?

Thanks.....AkBillyBow

I never tried smoking them with the shells on. Though the idea of how they salt peanuts that are in the shell got me curious. Most recipes just place raw salted peanuts in a brine, but the below link took it one step further:
