Title: ABT smoke
Post by: Albertasmoker on July 26, 2015, 05:27:26 PM
Evening fellow smokers,

I'm planning on doing some ABT and curious what kind of smoke people have been using?

Thanks in advance and happy smoking!

When I smoke vegetables, nuts etc. my go to smoke is pecan. But almost any of the fruit and nut bearing wood (also maple) will work equally well.

I prefer the stronger taste of hickory. I also use prosciutto instead of bacob.

I've read a lot of ABT recipes and no one specified a flavour of smoke, leaving me to conclude that it's all about individual personal taste. Personally, I enjoy fruit woods over stronger flavoured ones for all of my smoking - really like cherry & apple! 😎😀😎

Ended up using pecan. These things are so good!!!

Here's a tip I learned from a buddy. Instead of using toothpicks to secure your bacon, try broken pieces of uncooked spaghetti noodles. They hold the bacon in place long enough to take a set, then they cook along with the rest of the food. No toothpick to worry about, you just pop the whole thing right into your pie hole! Works with ABT's or anything else you wrap before cooking.

You got some great looking turds there, I doubt they lasted very long once the picture was taken. :)
