Title: Maverick Smoker Temp Probe Placement
Post by: zueth on January 17, 2018, 04:12:44 PM
I like to put the BBQ temp probe in Bradley so I can track the temp in the cabinet and typically place it on the lowest rack halfway up from the back wall and slightly out from the left wall, so it doesn't get meat drippings on it.  Is this the best place to put it?  or should I try to fit it on rack with meat? or above meat?

My cabinet probe has an alligator clip, so when I'm not using the bottom self I clip it on the bottom rail, left side, about 3" back from the door opening. When using the bottom rack, I place mine approximately where you place yours. When  I have to place it on the same tray as the meat, I place it as far away from the meat as I possibly can.

Due to evaporation of moisture from the meat; areas near the surface of the meat can read as much as 40°F lower than the actual cabinet temperature. So the worse areas to place the probe is very near the meat, and/or above it.
