Most of us use the Maverick et-73 because it measures the smoker temp and the meat temp remotely.

I use the Maverick ET-73. On Amazon.com the customer reviews are all over the board on the Pyrex. Some love it, some say the probe fail after a few uses http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/B00004RC4R/ref=cm_cr_dp_2_1/103-9350478-1598231?%5Fencoding=UTF8&me=ATVPDKIKX0DER&s=kitchen .

But, the reveiws for the Maverick are also all over the board.

Let's face it. They're all made in China & there are bound to be some lemons in the batch. I think if you get a good price & it does what you want, take your chances & buy it.

I would however, buy new batteries & throw the things that come with whatever you buy in the trash immediately. Either it's a really long, slow boat, or our oriental friends haven't discovered good battery-making techniques yet.

Ya think next time I check into a hotel & they ask "Smoking or Non?" they would mind?
