Title: cold smoke box
Post by: dick621 on August 27, 2008, 12:13:56 PM
I have come into a compact refridgerator that no longer works. Compressor andeverything has been removed.  can this safely be used as a cold smoke box with the insulation still in?  What are your thoughts on this. I dont think the insulation can be removed .Thanks

Should work fine.  I know a lot of guys that use an old refrig or freezer as a smoker - they work nice because they are already set up with racks.

i see you plan to use it for cold smoking and that is my recommendation.  Hot smoking may cause the plastic interior and insulation to off-gas some bad stuff.

Are you planning to use a Bradley smoke generator?

Thanks aces @ eights,  My plan is to use it just like a cardboard box setup.  Don't know if the smoke gen. will make it hot enough to gass off or not  If it will work its a nice looking box. Black like the bradley only bigger.

Looks like a good plan to me, I can't see any problems cold smoking in this way.  :)
