Which models? I was not aware that Polder sold a remote unit, so that is my reason for choosing the Maverick.

Ya think next time I check into a hotel & they ask "Smoking or Non?" they would mind?

I dont think the polder is remote, but having read many problems with the mav. i just wanted to know if one unit is more dependable than the other. having a remote unit is great ...if it works . a non remote may be better if it is more reliabile. Just trying to learn here and i like to spend the little bit of money i have, wisely.
I hate to be ripped off!! Dont you??

John,

The Mav is fine.  In fact, even if the remote feature is not as strong as you would like, it's still a pretty accurate temp probe so I like it better than the Polder.

thank you very much. My smoker will be located right outside my back kitchen door, mabe 40 ft from my desk and bedroom, kitchen and living room so I feel like its really close so range should not be a problem as far as the 2 units talking to each other. Just want to get the best dual temp for the buck. Also what else would a newbie need, I am getting the S&S book from walmart online for a total of $19.00 to my door. Iam getting a brand new Stainless Steel Bradley, with cover, video, and 1 bx asst. wood from ebay for 399.99 total $$ to my door(which shipped out yesterday).
I also ordered (from ebay) the 4 extra non-stick coated jerkey racks, with 1 bx pecan wood for $49.99 to my door.
Also Iam going to order the new revised book "Sublime Smoking" from the same author as the smoke n spice from walmart online.
What else is really "needed" to get started and do a good job?
Mabe a pair of heat resisint gloves? Where's the best find those, and do i need them? Anything else that i would need?
Iam going to order the metal bubba pucks as soon as i recover from these other items, lol.
I have found a basic rub, sauce, and marinade recipes on the web that sound simple & good, which i will put my own twist on and call then "mine" after playing with them.
thank all you guys for your help, advice, patience and support!!!

If you are referring to Polder Dual Sensing Thermometer check out this thread http://www.bradleysmoker.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=502&whichpage=2&SearchTerms=Polder%2CDual%2C click on the link to Amazon.com and make sure you check out the customer reviews. When I read them in December they were not good.
