Welcome to the Forum Phil.

The second element will help in heat recovery.

The PID will help keep the temp swings from happening in the smoker.

You can run the PID on the OBS with a single element and it will help.

If you put a second element in your Bradley it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you also use a PID to control it.

http://www.yardandpool.com  is where you can purchase the needed parts for the second element.

(look under Bradley replacement parts)

This is the link to the PID:

Welcome Phil,
DarqMan is right! Once you watch your family and friends eat something you proudly smoked you won't be the same. I've only got one rib smoke behind me on my OBS and I'm already modifying it for the second element and have my fingers crossed for a PID on Father's Day (or BD, only two days apart). Read and read some more!

Welcome Phil,
I'm currently adding the second element to my OBS and hope to get the PID for Father's Day. It didn't take me long to decide to go for it. You can watch my progress here:

Although it's been slow lately because of waiting on parts and Miss Jan decided we needed to remodel and paint the kitchen and dining room. Fun, fun!
