Folks after getting approval from the yardapes on this sauce and after getting a few positive comments at the Smoke Out. I felt it was time to share my new house BBQ sauce. Now before you start changing things to the way you think it should be made (Curt). I want to inform you of this. I have sent this recipe off to the couple that inspired me to find this recipe, and tweak it to make it as close as I could to the BBQ sauce they no longer sell. The reply I got back was "You damn near nailed it! The best part is, it is made from things you can find around the house" For those that don't know who or what I am talking about. Our forum friends Pat and Ann AKA Iceman used to make and distribute a Sop'n Sauce. If you have been lucky enough to have tried it. You are wanting more of it. Folks have been known to sit in the corner with their finger inside the jar trying to get the last of the goodness out of the jar so as not to waste it. There are two main differences to my sauce and Sop'n Sauce. Mine is a thin sauce not thick, and I have tamed down the heat for the less tolerant (Miss Vicky). So feel free to give this a whirl. Especially those of you jonesing for some Sop'n Sauce.

1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup Dr. Pepper
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons Worcestershire
1 tablespoon Dales Seasoning
1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
1/2 tablespoon onion powder
1/4 tablespoon cayenne pepper (or more depending on taste)
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon liquid smoke

Combine and simmer until mixture is smooth (5 to 10 minutes)

**Note if you double this recipe it fits right back into a normal sized bottle of ketchup with just a little to spare.

That's good enough for me! I really miss the stuff and will give this a go. Wifey thought that the Sop'n sauce had too much of a "bite" to it, so this might be the ticket.
Thanks for sharing.

Chris, I'm going to make a batch this weekend.

Looks like a good recipe. Do you know of a substitute for Dale's seasoning. I've heard of it for several years now, but I've not located any in the Northeast. I know I can get it online, but looking for alternatives.

Habs-  I just saw the seasoning here someplace and noticed it because Chris is always using it, now i have to remember where ..   It might have been Fresh Market in Westport - do you have a Fresh Market up there?

Here are the Dales ingredients   =  Soy Sauce, Onion, Garlic, Sugar, MSG, ginger, paprika     looks like it would be easy to sub out the actual ingredients

Deb/Habs, if either of you want some Dales to try out (and subsequently clone), let me know and I'll pop some bottles in the mail.  It's readily available around here.   They even have a lower sodium version.

Deb;

No I don't have a Fresh Market up here, but I have a trip scheduled for Westport on 9/24 and I will check it out then. I also have a trip scheduled for Norwalk on 9/11. Do you think Stew Leonard's would carry it.

STC;

Thanks for the offer. It will be awhile before I get around to making this sauce. If I can't find it on any of my trips into Connecticut; I will definately take you up on your offer.

a trip to Michelle's Pies is recommended if you have time.   She beat Bobby Flay in a throwdown.   The chocolate bourbon pecan is really good (actually they all are).
