I have a pair of bear paws also! They are great!

But.... do not try to use them as back scratchers :o

Have had mine for almost a year now and love it on Butts and Briskets.

I would use a 15 minute timer switch for that second element if your doing it that way, but I would definitely recommend having the element controlled by a high limit cut out or thermostat. It only takes a long phone call or 3rd beer to forget that its on. Safety before convenience, spend the money to make it safe. :)

Actually NO Hal the turbo shield works perfectly. I have had one for quite a while now myself and really like it especially with the elements I am running in my unit.
