Spare Ribs

Decided to do some spare ribs this weekend.  I normally do BB Ribs, so thought that I would try something different.

I trimmed the excess fat off of the ribs and rubbed with olive oil and then Cabellas  Kansas City Rub, then put in a ziploc and in the refrigerator overnight.

The next day I pulled them out 1 hour prior to cooking and preheated smoker for 220.

Then put them in the smoke for 3 hours with Hickory, after 3 hours i pulled them out and wrapped them with aluminum foil and put some brown sugar and little bit of butter on each section of the rack.  Then back into the smoke for 3 hours at 220. Next I pulled and applied Jack Daniels Hickory Brown Sugar BBQ Sauce and cooked a additional hour, not in the foil now.

They turned out very good and nice and moist.




We also made some mashed sweet potatoes and corn.



I will be making spare ribs again, most likely will do St. Louis Cut next time.

I am a big babyback rib guy and i went alittle crazy last weekend and did some St. Louis style for a change and really enjoyed them and look forward to doing them again soon. Good job on your ribs.. Nothing like a set of wet ribs.. tasty

The ribs look real good.  I've never been much of a fan of babybacks; not enough meat.

Your sweet potatoes look 'white'.  Am I missing something?

They're probably those new breed of albino potatoes I read about.  ;D ;D

There are sweet potatoes and yams, most people buy yams and call them sweet potatoes.  Yams have the orange color and sweet potatoes do not.
