Just got an OBS for Christmas from my in laws.  Funny thing is that I got while visiting them in Wisconsin. With college football bowl season ongoing I didn't want to wait for shipment back to GA where we live. So I checked it on the plane ride home. You should have seen the looks I got at the airport rolling in with a smoker.  Too funny.

Shortly after getting home I started searching around for tips on how to use my new toy. I found this forum and have been hooked.  Needless to say I already have a PID and fan kit on order. In the meantime I made an awesome Boston butt (pulled- turned out amazing), and am working on my first batch of jerky as we speak.

Thank you all for the many helpful posts and running such a well organized and inviting forum. I look forward to many years of smoking.

Hi Hirschinator and welcome to the forum.  Sounds like you have good in laws.

Hey, at least you weren't wheeling a 200 pound pellet machine on to the plane.

Where there's smoke, there's food.

Jerky turned out pretty good, I need to slice a little thinner next time for my liking and I think I would use less smoke next time.

I also did some chicken leg quarters (injected with butter base with Cajun seasoning). Here is before and after pics. Turned out super juicy and good smoke (Jim beam). I am waiting to get my mods (fan kit and auber dual PID) done this next weekend before I try my luck with ribs.
