Where should I place the thermometer
« on: February 27, 2012, 05:27:15 am »
Just wondering where the best place to put the probe for my digital thermometer?  Currently its in the top and its reading 198 after an hour for smoking.  If I lower it closer to the bottom shelf, its registering around 230.

Thanks
Glen

Bottom most rack away from anything that might drip on it.

The dripping thing is IMPORTANT.   I always position the probe so nothing can directly or indirectly run down the cable and get into the probe part.   I have even considered getting some high temp RTF sealant and creating a secondary seal around where the cable enters the probe.

Moisture get in there it usually means a new probe id going to be ordered.

Ok, I just move the thermometer between the bottom rack and the v shaped pan (don't know what the official name is).  Temp dropped...temp at the top was around 220, temp now is around 190. I will adjust temp to 220.  Im pushing the probe through the right side of the cover and its not touch any metal. Is there a better way to mound this?

Thanks again
Glen

Some drop it thru the vent and others go between the door and smoker itself (between the magnet and smoker)
