My new cold smoker is waiting on my doorstep and before I get home I was wondering if you have to season it before actual use. I really was wanting to try it out tonight. thanks for the feedback!

You really should season it. It gets rid of manufacturing oils etc. on the interior that can taint your first smoke.
Give a man a beer and he'll waste a day.
Teach him how to brew and he'll waste a lifetime.

Maybe too late but you should season it.  No down side and will remove any off tastes
