I think you recommend a thermometer to read the meat temp. What kind is easy to use and accurate?

It's called a Maverick - has dual probes - and it's wireless - pricey - $49.99 as of 17 Mar 2004

Anybody seen one in their wide internet travels that has a remote range of over 100 yards? Pricey or not, I want one good for a quarter-mile!

The Maverick/Redi Chek with the dual probes is working fine for me.

Smoking outside in the heat and I'm in here posting with the AC on with no worries[:p]...Life is good![:)]

One more vote for the Maverick Redi-Chek. I just bought one, and have used it on three occasions in the last two weeks. Most recently today (July 21) with a new receiver.

The one I bought was faulty: as others here have reported, its range was a pathetic 20-25 feet. One quick call to Maverick set it straight. They sent me a replacement receiver (yes, receiver, not transmitter) and the new one has the expected range. It works beautifully, and I love having the dual probes.

The only "problem" is speed: it takes so long for pulled pork to climb those last 20 degrees!
