Are there any advantages of using the Auber PID controller without upgrading my BS6 to a dual 500W or 900W element?
What are the advantages of dual 500W elements vs. single 900W finned element? Seems to me like the 900W finned setup is simpler and easier to install. Just need more power to smoke and cook in the Pacific Northwest in the winter time. It dosen't get very cold around here like in the midwest of the country and the current 500W element is barely doing the job in the summer time.

A PID controller won't give you any additional heat.  Either the 900W finned or a dual 500W will do that but it is highly recommended to get a PID controller if you go that route.

I have the 500W dual elements in my OBS.  It wasn't all that hard to install.  Just had to drill two additional large holes in the heat shield to mount it and run a couple of 3-4 inch high temp wires from one element to the other.

Thank all of you for your inputs. Too bad bradley did not make their BS6 smoker with a more robust temperature system that makes higher temperatures, more stable & recovers faster.
The smoking portion of this system has been awesome! As an amaterure smoker I have made some great tasting smoked meat & fish in my BS6.
