One thing I've noticed about the BPS is that it takes a while for the bisquettes to start smoking.  Anybody else experience this?

I don't have one, but even with the OBS I let the burner heat up a while before I start the pucks.

Yeh I let it heat up for half an hour and the first puck seems to be a dud.
