I have previously suggested that www.sausagemaking.org/ as a good site to get vacuum bags for foodsaver and other vacuum sealers together with bacon cure and other useful smoking accessories. This was based on a couple of rapidly delivered successful orders.

Since then I have used them a further couple of times and generally been dissatisfied, my current dispute is that I ordered bags for my vacuum sealer on 24th April 2006, the money was charged to my card on 25th April 2006 and I am still waiting for the product..... it looks like it will be another 2 - 3 weeks making a 7 to 8 week delivery period after I have paid for the product.... not acceptable in my view.

Coupled with this I have had a previous delivery delay, stuff that has leaked in transit plus a complaint from someone else on the forum that a vacuum sealer that they had purchased from this source was inadequately packed and had broken in transit.

In addition the attitude when you phone up to get the status of your order is sullen and begrudging so whilst it is obviously up to the individual who they purchase from I no longer feel I can recommend this site.

Need to find alternative suppliers for my vacuum bags and bacon cure!! ???

Found an alternative supplier of Foodsaver compatible bags at a very good price at:

http://www.culinaryinnovations.co.uk/osb/showitem.cfm/Category/14/

Carriage is a big pricey but I have placed a trial order for a couple of hundred bags together with a few marinading/seasoning sheets that can be used in conjunction with the vacuum bags and look "interesting"!

The bags are "sous vide"/ boil-in-the bag compatible and the company guarantees the smaller versions of the embossed vacuum bags will work with appliances made by many manufacturers of external type vacuum sealers, including FoodSaver, Magi Vac, Rival Seal a Meal and others. The largest bag may only be compatible with commercial quality sealers.

This is not a recommendation of this site, I will post back when I have received the goods on that score.

So far so good, prompt delivery of all items ordered, free samples of some of the other size vacuum bags on offer, paperwork all in order and generally impressed.

Bags are compatible with Foodsaver Vacuum Sealer as claimed. Not tried "boil in the bag" yet, that is something I will do over the next few days.

Definately worth a look if you are looking to buy vacuum sealer/vacuum sealer bags in the UK, bag prices are better than anything else I have managed to find.

To anyone in the UK trying to order vacuum bags I would refrain from using http://www.sausagemaking.org/ as I am now 9 weeks post ordering and I have been told it will be at least another week.

I was tempted to cancel the order a while ago but then have to go to the trouble of getting the money credited to my card and I would not trust this bunch to manage it competently!

This company has proved much more competent and cheaper too.

They have recently expanded the range to include rolls as well as bags.

These have also proved very good as well, think they are Canadian in origin and I have used the Memphis BBQ and Asian Citrus Ginger to date. Not cheap but handy when wanting to produce a tasty meal at short notice.
