Puck Heater not hot enough
« on: December 05, 2013, 12:52:47 pm »
Almost all my pucks are only charred halfway through. This is very wasteful.
Is it possible to either increase the element temp or modify the the circuit to provide a longer burn time

welcome aboard.

you may be experiencing several  issues here,

1 ) puck burner  not pre heated long  enough, need to pre heat it for   30 minutes
2) pucks may have absorbed moisture taking  longer to burn
3 ) moisture in the  cabinet creating  not  ideal temps for the  pucks
4 ) top  vent not  open wide enough and not creating a  draft to help burn the  pucks

Hope this  helps

In addition to the above suggestions, partial puck burning can be caused by the heat plate being dirty or if you're using an extension cord with the Bradley.  Click here for more troubleshooting ideas:

It takes over an hour before my BDS starts producing smoke
The plate is very hot to touch
I have the cold smoke adaptor fitted

You won't get a complete burn on some woods in colder temps so I suspect that could be your problem using the cold smoke adapter. I had to heat my cabinet up today to get enough hickory smoke to finish my salt today. Also you don't want the puck to burn to ash as this gives off an acrid smoke and is supposed to be when the cancer causing stuff is released.
