Has anyone had any experience smoking razor clams?

Just opened this week in Washington State. I went with my dad the last few days and picked up 60. Looking to smoke them up in my 6 rack. Any recipes, cook times, preparation methods, would be appreciated. Please help me out.

Wish I could help you out. I bet they would be great smoked.

Have you done any forum searches, I seem to remember reading something about clams when I first joined last year.

I found a Manilla Clams recipe, but nothing on Razor Clams.

I would think an hour of smoke would be ample. If I were doing it I'd probably cold smoke them then can. How are you preserving them after the smoke?
When I lived in Alaska we canned them. Once canned they didn't get rubbery like they would if they got boiled. Then they went in clam chowder, deep fried clams-Yum!

There are a couple of smoked mussel recipes on this forum and the recipe site. Mussels and clams can be cook the same way. I've tried both of the following recipe with mussels. They are two different techniques, and produce two different meals that are both delicious.

Depending on the type of clam, you may have to adjust your cooking times, as they may need more cook time.

Thanks for those two recipes Habs, I'm in mussel country here. I scuba dive for Dungeness crabs and the mussels are all over the place. Seems to be a favorite food of the crabs. Have had them "protect" their cache when I got too close. Gonna get me some mussels.

Thanks guys. Normally we bread them and fry them up. I eat just about anything, but Razor Clams have never been one of my favorites. I thought if I prepared them differently I might like them better. My dad asked me to try smoking them, so I thought I would take a shot at it. Going back down to the ocean today to get a bunch more.

You are fortunate. I love mussels, but the ones in the fish markets in may area are pretty small. I have to go to the costal areas of New York and New England to get some good ones.
