Is the water bowl full of water required if I'm not using the puck burner?

Good morning. Bradley Original with a dual element mod. I don't use the puck burner any more as I have moved on to the amazing tube.
I realize that I need my water pan in there to catch any dripping grease, but do I need to have any water in it?  I would think no water = less moisture.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

I also use the tube, but still put a bowl of water in. I feel that it adds moisture to whatever I'm smoking.

Water needed or grease dripping will cause a fire just my thoughts.

I too use my A-Maze-N Tube in my Bradley smoker to cold smoke cheese without the water dish. BUT, once the element is used I wouldn't operate it without the water dish. With the element glowing red hot I"d be afraid of it catching fire.
