I haven't tried it because I distribute Maldon Smoked Sea Salt in Canada....but I doubt it's rocket science....since you like to experiment I can suggest you also try to 'cold smoke' Olive Oil - outstanding!!!

Thanks for the information StevoCooks. What is the smoked salt mainly used for?
Is it also used as a replacement for table salt?

Excellent questions!  It is an amazing 'finishing' Salt that adds a slight smoke flavor and slight crunch to a meal, especially on fish.

It is a Sea Salt, so it is a more natural and healthier Salt than table salt, which is processed.  In fact, the flavor of Sea Salt is soooo much better than table salt that you actually use less....therefore you are ingesting less sodium, meaning that it's a better choice for people with high blood pressure.

Another thing you can do with sea salt is to make your own onion salt. The last time I did I bought 50lbs of Walla Walla sweet onions dehydrated them ground them to a very fine powder and add that to the sea salt. I used some nice jars for the salt.
