Can I calibrate my Bradley 4 rack digital smoker?
« on: May 31, 2018, 08:17:06 pm »
Doing some Tasso today and have the temp set for 180F. According to the display the smoker is running within a degree or two plus or minus of 180F

Yet the cabinet felt cooler and my project was taking longer than normal so I slipped my instant read thermometer inside and only got 155F actual cabinet temp.

My question is -Where does the temperature sensing occur? Is it possible it is dirty and requires a cleaning. Can it be corrected/calibrated if it is out of normal ranges?

I apologize if this has been asked before. I tried search, but could not find this question

Good question. I am not sure if it can be done but hopefully someone comes by and lets us know.

In a word "no" you can't calibrate your digital 4 rack.  The temp sensor is located on the back interior wall of the tower.  Look for a flat round disk about the size of a nickel.  That is the temp sensor and you can attempt cleaning it.

A piece of advice, don't rely on the temperature read outs for your Bradley.  They are known to be inaccurate.  I would suggest a digital thermometer with probes to read the temp of your meat and the temperature inside the tower along with a remote receiver so you don't have to continually open the door to monitor the temperatures.

Hope this helps.

You can't calibrate it but if it is way out then I would suggest replacing the temperature sensor.

Alternatively you could add a small variable resistor inline with the temperature sensor - this would give you some degree of calibration adjustment.
