Anyone else have the wire attached at the element burnt right of and come disconnected.
I am going to go buy new wire and connector, hope it helps.

Could this be an underlying problem I am no
Electrical guy?

Thanks

That hasn't happened to me. The most likely cause was that the wire was loose. Loose wires will over heat, and melt. Did the nut seem loose?

Make sure you replace the wire with high temperature wire.

Poor connection = resistance = heat = burnt connection. As HS said it could have been a loose terminal nut or it could have been a poor crimp on the ring terminal to wire. Once repaired ... don't ivertighten the tiny terminal nuts. About 15 inch pounds is all they need. Thats "three fingers tips on the wrench" tight only.
It's going to take a lifetime to smoke all this.

Thanks a lot you guys, there for sure what happened. I replaced the element last winter  and just tightened with my fingers.

It's best to put tiny washers on each side of the ring terminal and even better if you have two lock washers, one for under each nut . Then snug with your fingers and use a small wrench to give it just a little pinch.
