Well I purchased my last pork shoulder at the grocery store, but I'm not sure that I got exactly what I should have.  It came wrapped in plastic shrink wrap,  the label said it was partially cooked and that it had been cured with nitrates? ect, and that it had been smoked some ...  Anyway, I'm guessing that I should go to a butcher the next time to get the shoulder and not the grocery store.  The big grocery stores have taken over around my area and I'll have to find a butcher in the phone book.

IMHO a boston butt is best for pulled BBQ.  Some like the picnic cut for pulled pork.  Always buy raw/uncooked meat.  Your local grocery store usually has these on hand for purchase.  Good luck and Happy Q'ing.

Some say BBQ is in your blood, if thats true my blood must be BBQ sauce.

IMHO you dont need to go to a butcher. Walmart has them so does Albertsons...etc...find a place convenient but in my experience buthers cost more and when your smoking low and slow you can take a cheaper cut of meat (say a tough old brisket) and make it melt.

I agree with the Bigsmoker, the boston butt is best for pulled pork. And you do want to get raw/uncooked meat.this link has pics from one of my success stories.may need to scroll down[:p]

Well I found some at Costco.  It was $1.55/lb for boneless butts.  Came in a package of 2 butts about 6lbs each.
