I have seen a number of threads on "indoor" smoking, anywhere from a hotel room to in the kitchen.  My question is about the fans, range hoods etc.... doesn't the suction from the fan/hood draw the smoke out faster?  Won't I go through more pucks?

Thanks
Mike

Welcome to the forum!

I do not think so.  Although I do not use an exhaust fan myself, I am sure the ones that do are not drawing much, if any, volume of smoke out, but rather just giving it somewhere to go.  As far as puck use, each one stays on the burner plate for about 20 minutes.

Hi Mike,
Good Question.  If you look carefully at some of the awesome setups, you will see some small details surrounding the exhausting system that does not suck out the smoke but captures it and then moves it away.  The Garage setup with the hood vent and plastic pipe has notches cut in the edges of the pipe for that purpose.  Many of the writeups also address this issue.

Hi Jnmsmow and welcome to the forum.

Here is a link to some pictures of my setup in my garage. When I first set it up I had some smoke in the garage (not much) until I realized that a range hood with a standard fan (not a drum style blower) actually only sucks air from the very centre. So I added a piece of 4" PVC pipe and that just sits on top of the BS over the vent. It worked very well but tended to draw too much air through the unit causing it to cool down. My solution was to notch the 4" pipe at the bottom to allow it to draw room air as well. If you have a look at the pictures in the link you will see what I'm refering to.
