Did the cardboard box cold smoke set up this weekend with my DBS.  The generator kept beeping unless I plugged the low voltage wire into the back of the cabinet.  Really put an onus on where the generator and cold smoke box could be located.  Was not able to get the cold smoke box lower than the cabinet.  Did not seem to hurt performance, but was wondering if there is a work around other than finding a longer cord?

There's a few things you can do.

Here is instructions on how to make a longer cord...

Or, you can simply cut the wire and add the appropriate amount of wire into it by using something like speaker wire.

The Bradley offset apparently includes a dummy plug that is just a small resistor between the two conductors.  You can make one of those as well.  There is another thread on the forum that talks about this.  I beleive they found that a 100K ohm resistor will work well, it simulates the thermocouple load the box would provide.

Thanks for the answer.  I did not notice that on the susanminor forum.  And I had sorta followed that other thread, but it didn't sink in that the discussion was making a dummy cord for a DBS to use with a cold smoke set-up - guess it went in and out without sticking.  The resistor makes perfect sense!

Or you can just buy the Cold Smoking attachment and save yourself the agony of trying to make your own dummy plug.  I got 3 here ready to ship out...could be there by the end of the week. ;)
