Hi Gang -
I have appreciated all the good advice I've gotten for everyone here on the boards. I must say, I never see any anger or name calling in any of the posts (something that's rare on message boards today). I think that says loads about the people who post here.  Thanks everyone!

Anyway, I smoked my first boston butt this weekend.  I used a dry rub/injection recipe I found in the book "Peace, Love & Barbeque". If you haven't read it, you should. It's about the people who make barbequeing the special thing that it is.  It also contains lots of recipes, both for meat, sides and desserts.

The results were absolutely great!  A barbeque franchise place just opened up here in Scarborough (right next to Cabelas), so the wife and I tried it out. I was a little suspicious that there was no smoker or chimney in sight, despite the fact the the sign said they smoked all their meats on sight. The food was pretty good, but when we had our own smoked butt the following day, we both agreed that was the first and last time we were going to the restaurant!  (Sorry, I can't remember the name of the place).

So, check out the pics and again, thanks for a great message board. :)

This is after the rub was on overnight:

This is my rig; I got the rack at Sams:

Here's a shot of the butt as I put it in; I used 2 1/2 hours of hickory at 220 degrees:

After about 7 hours, she's ready for a foil, towel wrap:

And at long last, time to load up the buns and enjoy:

Very nice, Earlyman! When the first smoke goes well it gives us the will to go on to many more things! That's one tasty looking butt!  ;D :D

Glad everything worked out well, Earlyman!  It's always a good feeling when it happens.  Now, you've got the experience and confidence to try a dozen other things.  It's kind of like science class except you get to eat the experiments!

Well done!

Earlyman that looks like it's melt-in-your-mouth good!
I like the idea of putting your BS on a cart, might have to try that.
You are so right about the good folks on this forum.
People actually help each other on this forum!  It's the only one I feel like I'm amongst friends.
Most forums I've been to the members are climbing all over themselves to showcase how darn smart they think they are and they are down right mean at times.
That was my 2 cents! ;)
