Shasta,
Gus is running point on this, he has you headed in the right direction.
as far as the slider is concerned, there is a sweet spot......go all the way to the right and then back it off
about 1/8th of an inch and the Auber will help it cruise along just fine!

When using my PID with my OBS I have always just placed it all the way to the right.  What does backing off 1/8th of an inch do?

Some of the sliders have a dead spot at full right...apparently yours is one of the good ones that doesn't.

About the dead spot; Brian from Bradley posted some time back that it may have been an issue with earlier models, but it is no longer a problem. My OBS is more then 6 years old and I have never encountered the dead spot. So I would move it all the way to the right; if you encounter any problem then you can back off a hair.
