Title: KOOL CHAT -- Recipe Site
Post by: Oldman on October 18, 2005, 04:52:40 AM
Ok other than the Logo the upgraded chat is up and running. I still have a few things to do in the control panel errr rather Trey does--that is why he gets the big bucks [:)] (a few small bugs.)

You have to be log on the recipe site to use it. The link is at the top of the forums (not top of page.)

Tray and I've been messing around with this chat and it is without a doubt the KOOLEST chat I've seen. We are going to be adding some more toys to this room.

Plus you can enter it and then minimize the screen to your task bar. You will hear if someone comes in as it says welcome.

Next if you are in the chat and the other person has stepped away if their option for sound is turned on then you can send them sounds that will let them know you are in the chat room waiting on them.... :)

This way you whenever you are on the net by just going to chat and minimizing you will have a better chance of talking with a member.

I hope you all enjoy this and if there is enough interest then I will renew it next year~~! [^]

Well I see by the logs that some members are using the Chat. That is a good thing~~~[^]

You can get into the chatroom one of two ways.
1. Off of the link on the recipe site.
2. This direct LINK. (http://susan.rminor.com/forums/chat.php?)

Do note that you must be a member of the recipe site or you cannot get into the chatroom.

Hearing someone is a whole lot more fun than typing out stuff. Plus it also has a neat chat room. However, I do believe most here would not care to go through the setup that the client requires. Plus it does not like some of the older sound cards out there.

I'm just glad you folks are using it... [^]

Options,

In the image above, on the right hand side you will see my name Raye Minor in black type.

If you are in a chat and someone is running their mouth at you and you don't want to hear it then right click on their name where you see my name in black type and there is a option that will stop their messages from getting to you. Or in other words you have just shut them up. [^]

I've been trying to connect for the last few minutes, but I keep getting "Error Connecting. Please try again." It could be the proxy-server business we have here at work, but most other things work, so I figure I'd ask if it's up and running right now.

Believe me in December I'm moving the recipe site to a new service. Sorry for your troubles... [V]

kamanodental--sorry you missed the chat
jb9-- no one could get you to talk. This morning you were still showing log in, so I removed you from the room. I figured you just forgot you were connected. Make sure the sound option is turned on so when someone comes into the chat room you will know it.
grillinfool--I enjoyed the chat with ya.
Raye Minor--that's me.
owrstrich--I enjoyed the chat with ya
Raptorman--sorry you missed the chat.

From the logs I'm seeing it looks like most are joining the chat betweem the hours of 18:00 and 20:00 PM EST. USA.

we have been chatting with our indy car friends for years... it started out kinda shakey... poeple would show up and leave and miss each other...

then we decided the first chatter of the evening would post a chat thread on the main page of the forum saying the chat was open... that went well... giving a heads up on the forum worked well...

someone suggested setting a night and time for a weekly chat do we decided on wed at 9 till whenever... now every wed night we have 10 to 20 people in the chat at once and as many as 40 people over the evening...

we post the chat thread on wed and people show... we still post the chat thread on other nights too and people show... not as many as wed but the level of participation is very good...

the indy car forum has several thousand members and occasionally the noobs show... however there are about 20 people committed on a weekly basis and another 20 who are fairly regular...

i think with the amount of posters on the bs forum we could get several committed and several fairly regular if there was a heads up chat thread posted by the first one in on any given night... and some thought of a regular night and time too... any night but wed is good for me... although as with everyone my shedule is irratic too...

just a thought from someone with no backyard... garage... basement... or honeydoo list...
