Nepas,
Can't blame you for worrying.

I know its not quite the same, but I have a step-brother in the Army who's been to iraq 3 times and afghanistan 2 times. So much for the ole, you only have to do so many combat tours. He is now on a long break in Fort Hood, Tx. Will not be going anywhere at least for 2 years. You always wonder if he is ok.

Well , did you get that bad boy fired up yet or what??  We're all waiting for pics of it loaded up.

Oh ya and if the river rises by you we're all in deep sh*t. Specially if if comes into your yard.

Good idea on splitting the door. Less heat and smoke loss was your reason. OK tell me I'm wrong..... ;D

Rick, on mine I put one vent on the lower door and one where you have the horseshoe. Both are adjustable, I used heating grates for heating and cooling vents, they work great. Your project is really taking shape. Inside I put a 2x4 one each side with 4 or 5 V cuts in the top of the 2x4, this holds the 1" dowels in place that hold the sausages. Then below them I have a couple more so I can put racks in if I want.

Yup

your right

Pens

i have some vents like you have. Prob going to install one on the back towards the bottom for air intake. The stack i'm up in the air if i want galvanized or stainless steel.

I do not have a stack just the top vent and never had any problems, If you do put a stack on make sure you have a way to close it off so rain doesn't get inside as well as bees and other critters.
