Title: New Smoker but No Smoke
Post by: eagvent on April 26, 2009, 08:28:45 AM

I have a brand new out-of-the-box BDS that I was hoping to inaugurate today to Maple Bourbon Ribs.  I ran through the start-up 3 times to heat and smoke for an hour to break it in.  Each time, I got plenty of heat, so I know the heating element works, but no visible smoke.  The pucks discharged are not even singed.

Do I likely have a bad smoke generator?  Are there any things I can check before dealing with Bradley and/or the retailer?

I'm also getting oven temps up toward 200 when the thermostat is set at 150.  Is that normal?

Thanks.

Ed

Sounds like it could be a loose wire inside of your SG......I run an OBS and am not real familiar with the DBS, someone with more knowledge than me will be along!  If the SG is bad, not to worry, Bradley customer service is top notch!

So if I'm understanding correctly...

You have the Tower side on the generator turned on - Right side controls.
You have the Smoke Generator side on the generator turned on - Left side

So are the pucks advancing every 20 minutes on their own?

Is the puck burner hot?

The pucks were moving through but not heating.

After the first few unsuccessful tries, I unplugged all the cords and connected them again.  Voila, now I have burning pucks.   ;D  I guess one of the cords was only 99% plugged in.
