Planning to smoke a chicken this afternoon, and I have some almonds to smoke too. Is there a problem with putting them in at the same time (are the nuts gonna wind up tasting like chicken?)
I do not think the almonds will taste like chicken. Not sure what kind of results you will get with the almonds though, since the chicken will probably produce a lot of moisture. If you give it a try, let us know how it turns out. I recommend you put the chicken under the nuts.

Please try not to do them at the same time. The nuts will indeed get a blend of flavors. The nut oil will come out slightly but most of the moisture on the nuts will come from the chicken smoking. Thus allowing the odors in the smoker at the time to adhere to the nuts. Chicken Ash Almonds could be the outcome.
If your almonds are Raw, this could be a much more intense item as the nuts oil will come out more.
If the nuts are already roasted, not so much but enough to taste bad. They will also get soft.
I prefer to warm smoke pre-roasted nuts at temps closer to 100 degrees with a salt / sugar blend. Almonds especially, At times I will even add some cinnamon to the nuts.
Thanks for jumping in IKW. I was hoping someone with nut experience would join. I have yet to experiment with nuts. After I start smoking nuts, I just may try the almond/chicken or cashew/chicken combination to taste the results. We like chineese food, so why not.
