Title: A New Posting Section
Post by: NePaSmoKer on June 03, 2009, 05:57:12 PM
Hi Gang

I sent Brian a PM about having a new posting section for Smoking, BBQ and Processing items for sale or even trade. This will be site related items only. If for sale items get out of site content I'm sure this section would get pulled out.

Example would be like. I have a new set of 4 Bradley's racks for sale or trade. Such transactions should be through a PM or email as not to post addresses or phone# online.

Our forum is getting very popular with new members joining daily and I think this new section could add to the forum.

How many of you would like this new section?

Thanks for looking.

Rick

Rick,
i for one like the idea, i know for example that you and a few others here do a lot of modifications to your equipment,
and that a barter/sale thread would be just what the doctor ordered for us fledglings to get a shot at some seasoned
stuff (maybe slightly discounted)  ;) and for some others to make a little room in the garage for some more projects.
i am thinking that would put a lot of extra strain on our beloved leader (Brian).
i am kind of afraid that there would be a  possibility of turning the forum into a Craig's list kinda thing.
not necessarily with the present members but maybe others just joining long enough to make a few deals then vanish?

just my 2 cents

I like the idea, but it might invite some commercial posts that we really don't need. It could be a spam bait.

Yeah i know what your saying about others just posting then leaving. That's why Brian suggested i put this out there and see how many liked or disliked the idea before he made the posting section. I guess the final decision would be his.

There has been a few members selling things (I for one) I just thought this would be a neat thing.

Does it get out of hand any. Like someone selling items not fishing related?

There is always one who has to screw it up and we have to live with it but with this forum we have Brian that can wipe the slate clean if necessary. For that reason (Brian) I think it might work,

I think it's a great idea.
I participate in another forum that has a "for sale" section for relevant items and a separate section for all other things folks want to sell.
Could there possibly be someone who has the time to moderate a "for sale" posting area so Brian wouldn't get overloaded?

This could be a good thing if properly handled.  Hopefully a member will not establish a business and use the forum for advertising.  This really should be limited to occasional private transactions.

I think it would work and since this is basically a family of friends We could police it a little ourselves. If someone or something gets carried away everyone just boycotts the posting.

Like you said they get enough advertisement from the rest of us they wouldn't need to post there. Unless they might be doing a info post like Brian does just letting us know about a sale he is having. I honestly believe they wouldn't abuse it at all, and probably wouldn't use it just to avoid any conflicts.

I'm on a computer forum that has a "Marketplace" posting section. But before you can even READ that section, much less post to it, you must have a certain number of posts to the general forum. That keeps the spam-bots from having a field day and limits the participants to actual users of the main forum in general.

Say make a 50 post limit before you can see/read the marketplace?

Yes, it limits the potential buyers pool, but the sanity it brings is priceless.

Sounds like a good idea to me.  My only problem with it is living over this side of the pond, I'm unlikely to be able to take advantage of very many of the offers  :'( !!

This is a good idea.

To post item for sale you need to have an established posting count.

I dont think anyone will take this as disrespect. But say Bryan at Y&P has those damaged Bradleys he could put them here and see if he could sell em, Even Tim when he gets damaged smokers. The 3 transactions was just a number i threw out there.

Its all good my friend

I can't speak for Bryan, but I think I would only post stuff that I'd want to get rid of quick, not necessarily related to my actual business(es).  I've got a lot of unique stuff here, and while I don't like to part with anything that I've acquired (besides inventory), sometimes ya just need a fast buck or 500.

But it would have to be site related like smoking, bbq or processing IE: Stuffers, grinders, casings and the like

I guess I'd only use it to buy stuff then. :)  Not a problem.  BTW, you should have a new toy arriving today.

HI Gang

I have had a few conversations regarding this idea with Rick (aka Nepas)
The biggest concern I have is that this will turn into a place to sell or trade all kinds of stuff.
This I/WE do not want.

I have agreed to start a new board for selling or trading items but it must be kept to items related to the forum (FOOD SMOKING, BBQ, FOOD PROCESSING)

I will be appointing Rick  (aka Nepas) as a moderator on this board with the power to delete any posts not related to the forum.

I will work on this and the new board should be up in a day or so.

Thanks Brian

Had an idea for another section under the selling area? I was thinking we could also post a wanted section where members could post items they are looking for.

That way if other members have something another one wants they could make a deal or we could also keep an eye out for these items members are looking for.

For example, I know Nepa is trying to track down a cold smoke adapter for his Traeger. He could post this in this section so members could keep an eye out for one or let him know if they have one they want to get rid of.

Just a thought.
