Title: Winter in Alaska
Post by: Kummok on February 09, 2005, 10:50:51 PM
In case you ever wonder what us old fish crunchers do when the weather's too nasty to fish, (which doesn't happen THAT often!)

That game originally comes from this site http://www.yetisports.org/ . They have several games. It now requires you to register, but the other games are more fun.

Nothin as nice as your probably used to fishing in, trying to remember what boat it looked like you were in... Arima ?. Getting a 22' alumaweld intruder, wanted something to fish and ski with, won't be a super shallow water boat, but hopefully I'll be able to get around elsewhere with it [:)] Salmon fishing will be a new adventure for me, lots to learn.

Birdboy: The boat that pic was taken in was a 40 Bounty, my neighbor's. Nice ride, but outta my price range. I've got a 22'SeaSport (pic below). Love the Alumaweld and wish my hull was aluminum....would open up a broader range of destinations for me....someday IF you guys will buy more Bubba Pucks[:D][:D]

Shoot Kummok, I don't even have a boat! I've been eyeballing a Sea Ray 185 runabout though (not good for fishing, just cruising around the lakes up here - my friends have fishing boats so I'm not in a hurry to get one at this time)

But, I gotta get the missus back to work so I can get the new toy, and a truck hee hee!

tsquared: I'll be fishing around Oregon and southern washington, want to try Bouy 10, the Rockpile and the Columbia. I'll be trying anything I can comfortably get into with a prop (excludes about 4 rivers in Oregon). I also got all my traps for crabbing, dealers throwing in a crab davot.

Kummock: Nice boat, you are set for fishing! Wife still wants to be able to ski, etc, so I sold my 185 Reinell, and ordered the Alumaweld with a 225 Honda prop and kicker. Hopefully it will be the best all around boat for the money. Dealer says once you've gone aluminum you wont go back to a fiberglass ski boat....we'll see.

Now need to get a good sounder/chartplotter, vhf radio, ....
Sportsmans show this weekend![:D]

I know what your wife means about the skiing part of boating.....many's the time when I've been out on the Bay with rough weather and marginal fishing ("marginal" up here means "less than the limit after fishing for two hours" [;)][:D]) and my mind starts to wander back to the smooth water of Lake Mead in our old Ski Nautique days [8D]

BTW.....I couldn't get any better than 318 on that game...time to get out the Sharps 50-140 and get that penguin in my sights![xx(]

I was showing the wife the penguin game and scored a 341. I think it is a good thing, that I can't get the game to launch from work. Some kind of productivity screener LOL[:D][:(][:(][:(][:(][xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(][:)]

Never had the pleasure of skiing behind a true competition ski boat like a Nautique. Lake Mead huh, I've looked at renting a houseboat on that lake, looks pretty nice.

Don't you use the Sharps as an anti bait-steeling, salmon killing sea lion defense unit ?[:D]

Highly recommend the Lake Mead houseboat trips....Rent from Colville Bay or Overton and head straight for the areas between Temple Bar and the launch ramp north of there a few miles...can't remember the name of the launch ramp but it serves Meadview Estates. Water's pretty low, but still great on a houseboat with PWCs and/or ski boat[8D] I'll attach photo of the area taken last Nov....Water is normally at least halfway up the sandy bar in the background and that bar is an EXCELLENT place to camp the houseboat....usually glass in that area and few boats because it is so far "upstream" but definitely worth the gas.

I shoot sea lions with camera only these days, (see pic below)....don't want the Sharps getting rusty[xx(]

They had some monster boats around there.... 75'ers, that just sounds like too much fun. I'll keep the location in the note file in case we get to do it.

Nice picture ... even with the sea lions [:D][:D]
