Title: sun ovens
Post by: Up In Smoke on July 31, 2009, 05:05:13 PM
I have just started research on solar cooking. i am extremely green on this subject....no pun intended!
i have been looking at the sun oven, yard and pool carries it.
the little research i have done makes it look pretty cool.
my question is has anybody here tried one and if so what were the results.
pros and cons please...i am really interested in the concept but would like to reduce the
chances of making an error in purchasing.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Olds has one and loves it.  He actually recommended it to Bryan.
Here are a few threads Olds started.

I replied to your posting on the other thread: http://forum.bradleysmoker.com/index.php?topic=5325.msg120239#msg120239

BTW I have 3 of the sunovens.

EDIT: For those who have not seen a sun over here is a vid on them. http://www.sunoven.com/video_how_sun_ovens_work.php

Next weekend I'm planning on doing roast and bisquits in them. I will post images of them and the end product.

These are my ovens at the MG get together last year.

they look pretty good,  :) till I seen how much they cost, too pricy for me.  :(
but still would be neat to have and use.

they look great and I'd love to have one but I can cook in my house oven for a very long time till I could recoup the price for one of them. If I could afford more toys, beleive me, I would have them.  :)

Absolutely right, I'll guarantee you'll never recoup the price, It'll be sitting on the shelf collecting dust.

Originally I purchased these units as I live in a storm state. They go hand in hand with our house generator, fresh water tank and 90 days of food stuffs.

I'd rather use the propane to power the generator than for cooking.
