Title: My Day At The H E B
Post by: classicrockgriller on August 19, 2009, 10:37:11 PM
Today was my day to go grocery shopping. My wife and I shop at different stores on different days. That got started about 4 years ago when we were at the H E B and she was within shouting distance away from me in the produce dept. Thinkin I was gonna be funny, I held up two cucumbers and called her name asking her if she wanted the crookneck cuke or the one with all the knots on it. When I got thru spoutin off there were 13 people looking at her for her answer. She has never gone back to that store and I am a store legend.
Anyway, I saw this guy and he had grillin meats in his basket. He also had a pkg of pork carnitas. I use the stuff to make pork pulled sandwiches and pork tacos. I ask him what he was gonna do with it and after his answer we just started trying to outdo each other. I've cook this, I've cook that, etc. You know what I mean. Finally when I felt I had the advantage, I said "I just ordered a Bradley Smoker that's due in anytime, have you ever heard of one". That sob said "You are gonna love that thing, I've had one for 3 years". I live in a town of 6,000 people. Most bbq pits have 3 legs and a wooden stump for the 4th. When you go to a pig roast, it's either cooked in a cajun microwave or it's buried in the ground. I was shocked and pissed, but only for a minute. When he talked of what he has smoked, how great the Bradley Smoker is, how 5 different people have bought one because of things he has cooked on it, I knew my money had gone to a great investment. I ask if he is a member of forum, he said yes....marxbrew...he said he was not a poster but still returns to see new ideas.
Well that is the first time I have been outdone and walked away feeling good about it. It's just a small Bradley world out there.

Hi there classicrockgriller,

I was a licenced pilot in the States and one of the first things you learn is that over - confidence is the shortest way to the pilot's (and his passengers) demise. I say stick to the ground be proud of what you accomplish and look at others accomplishments in jealousy and not envy. Jealousy compels you to become better, envy is just a bad bad feeling. I am glad you walked away feeling good.

The story about the cucumbers is funny and I could only imagine the look on your wife's face.

Love the cuke story.  I have a similar on in the Home Depot and a certain piping valve.
