Welcome to the forum B-Con! Looks like you hit the ground running! Hope the butt turned out how you wanted. A Butt is a good place to start on the Bradley Road of Smoking Nirvana. Warning there is not cure. Plenty of great folks here with a deep well of experience, so feel free to jump in to either ask questions or teach us new and better ways! And there are a few folks on here that don't read - they need pics! They tend to have moist noses and furry tails and do appreciate good pics to drool over! ;D
welcome B-Con. congrates on your first smoke

Let us know how the butt turns out, sounds like it will be dry and tough with that plan of yours. This aint no pot roast.
No offense but I have never seen or herd of cooking a butt that way, maybe a pot roast but not a butt.
4 hr smoke, cabnet temp at 220 to 230 F, vent half way open or more, internal temp of 180 to 200 F go by temp not time you could figure about 2 hr per lb to start checking things. Rember the key is "slow and low"
