Kinda in a bind I made some excellent pulled pork before I always use maple problem I am having is we are having a party this saturday and everyone wants me to make some pulled pork. I am all out of maple Gander moutain by me does not carry maple. I know I cant get any by friday. All I have is Apple and Hickory I was thinking about using the apple has anyone else just used apple on pulled pork and was it good Thanks for your help.
Apple would be fine, just a little mild maybe. I would alternate the apple and hickory using 1/2 of each. I done that on ribs and liked the flavor. I'm sure others will chime in and help out also. Good luck.
Ditto. I do this a lot and it turns out just right.. 3 of one, 3 of the other, repeat.
I have done lots of butts with Hickory.
They came out great.
My favorite on butts is Apple.
Apple is a good choice, but I use pecan and that gives it a good flavor. Hickory is very similar to pecan, just a bit stronger smoke flavor.
Butts and hickory are made for one another!
I use Pecan on butt which is a mild version of Hickory
Apple is like a mild slightly sweet version of Maple
If you want to get as close to Maple maybe try 1/2 Apple and 1/2 Hickory and stack them every other one 1 Apple 1 Hickory and so on
