So, I'm wanting to do my next smoke this weekend and I want to try pulled pork. I went to Wal-Mart to get a Pork Butt and they didn't quite have what I was looking for, or maybe they did. They called is a pork shoulder butt...is that what I want? I was just expecting the package to say Pork Butt, but I guess I was wrong. Sorry I'm new to all this!
Also, bought some Jim Beam pucks at Bass Pro today, any reviews on those? What goes best with them, etc?
Yep, pork butt is actually the front shoulder, contrary to popular belief that it comes from the rear. The rear is where the hams come from, the picnic is also from the front lower section of the leg.
The butt in pork butt is for the butt end of the sholder. Also called a Boston butt.
The other end is the shank or picnic shoulder.
I have used the Jim Beam pucks on beef and chicken thus far. They are an Oak base.
I would think they would be good on pork.
KCTR, when I told my wife the front shoulder of a pig is called a Boston Butt, she told me them people from boston are stupid. ;D ;D
